Notice of the Annual General Meeting to be held on Thursday, March 6^th, 1980, at 7-30pm in the Department of Geology, Hull University.

Agenda

1. Minutes of the A.G.M. 1979.

2. Matters arising therefrom.

3. Secretary’s Report 1979-80

4. Treasurer’s Report 1979-80.

5. Election of Officers & Committee for 1980-1981.

The following have been nominated-

President – Mr. Ivor T. James

Vice-President – Mr. R. Myerscough

Secretary – Mr. K. Fenton.

Treasurer Mr. F. Whitham.

Committee - Mr. L. emery, Mr. P Graves (new member), Mr. A. Gear, Mr. R. Harrison.

Members wishing to make other nominations should inform the Secretary as soon as possible. (5 required for Cttee).

6. Finances – Two motions will be presented –

i. ‘that the present subscription rates be retained for a further year’.

ii. ‘that the present Special Investment Certificate … [details of investments]… the Treasurer to select the best interest rate available’.

7. Any other business.

8. Presentation of a book to the Department of Geology in appreciation of their continuing hospitality to the Society.

Lecture – the speaker will be Dr. J. A. Miller of Cambridge University and his topic- ‘Radiometric Dating – its uses and misuses’.

Suggestions for the forthcoming Summer & Winter programmes are always welcomed from members and should be made to the Secretary or other members of the Committee.

Dates to note. May 6^th Professor John Neale’s Inaugural Lecture.

YGS lectures – March 15^th, Sheffield, October 18^th, Hull; November 15^th, Durham; December 13^th, York. Field Meetings – May 9-11^th Devon; June 7^th, Clitheroe; June 27-29^th, Durham & October 10-12^th, Scarborough.

Our friends in the Hull Natural History Society celebrate their Centenary this year. The celebrations include a dinner to be held on May 10^th and any member who would like to attend (cost c. £5 per head), should contact Miss A. Gowland [address provided]. Ian Preatt of the R.S.P.B. will be the guest of honour. I have a copy of their very full programme of events if you would like further details.

The Committee have agree that the list of members shall be revised and those in arrears be deleted. We would be grateful if the few members concerned either forward their subscription to the Treasurer of submitted a formal notice of resignation to the Secretary. On the other hand we are pleased to see a steady growth in new members and we hope that you will all continue to persuade your friends to join us. Compared with other forms of Adult Education we must be offering the best bargain in Britain!
