The Whitham Memorial Medal

The family of Dr Felix Whitham have kindly donated ten medals to the Society to be awarded as a prize for new research related to the geology of East Yorkshire or for increasing local public understanding of our science.

The Felix Whitham Memorial Medal will normally be awarded once every 2 years for contributions to new research into the geology of eastern Yorkshire or northern Lincolnshire, or it may be awarded for active contributions to geological "outreach" projects in the Hull area. Recipients will be invited to present a lecture to the Society as part of the following year's Winter Programme and asked to allow the Society to publish an abstract of the talk. Nominations should be submitted by HGS members to the President or Secretary and will be considered by the HGS Committee. If Committee members are nominated they must withdraw from the Committee meeting when the award of the medal is being discussed.

The first medal was awarded to Stuart Jones at our 125th Anniversary Meeting
